UvA scientists are at the heart of both the city of Amsterdam and society at large, and play an active role in the public debate. This extends to newspapers, radio and television, as well as SPUI25, the cultural academic centre on the Spui (a joint initiative in which the UvA participates), an open forum where scientists, journalists, writers and opinion leaders meet, debate and hold lectures and book presentations. The UvA also organises a series of Amsterdam Lectures for a broad audience, as well as an annual University Day for all UvA alumni and staff members.
