Residence Wizard
To be able to enter the Netherlands, you may have to obtain an entry visa (MVV: Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf) and/or a residence permit (VVR: Vergunning tot Verblijf).

Short stay visa (VKV )
For stays of up to 90 days you might need a short stay visa to enter the Netherlands. This is called a VKV in Dutch (Visum Kort Verblijf). Check out the Residence Wizard of the IND to see if this visa applies to you.

Entry visa (MVV)
This visa is a sticker in your passport (type 'D' visa).Check the Residence Wizard of the IND to see if this visa applies to you. It’s the first step in obtaining a residence permit. It allows you to enter the Netherlands, but does not give you the right to actually stay there for a longer amount of time.

Visa application for family members
You may want to bring your partner and/or children with you to the Netherlands. Or perhaps they will join you at a later stage. Either way, be sure to mention your plans to your UvA HR officer and/or the Staff Immigration Office as early as possible.
