Cost of living

How much money you will need per month depends, of course, largely on the lifestyle you are used to at home. But you will need at least €1000 to €1500 per month to cover your normal expenses.

Dutch tax system and filing your taxes

Tax rates on salaries start from 33% and can go up to the maximum of 52%. Part of these taxes consists of social security premiums.

30% rule

As a foreigner employed in the Netherlands, you might be eligible for a special tax reduction scheme called the 30% rule.

Social security and allowances

The Dutch social security system provides financial security when your income is affected by events such as health hazards, job loss or old age.

Pension

If you are in employment of the UvA during your stay, pension fees are automatically deducted from your salary. This means you build up pension rights in the Netherlands.
